On 2016

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to post a 2016 wrap-up. Truthfully, I didn’t really plan to do much at the start of the year. I went with my gut a lot this year and just let life take me where it wanted. My decisions weren’t so planned out this year, and I am fine with that.

I didn’t think I would do much in 2016, and I didn’t, but the year surprised me nonetheless.

With that, I’ll keep things short and sweet.

Among other things this year I:

  • Rang in the New Year with my family in the Philippines — bringing together our entire extended family from Malaysia, Singapore, USA, and other parts of the Philippines for the first time in DECADES!
  • Rekindled my love for photography
  • Went to Seoul and met Tara
  • Reunited with friends and my aunt who I hadn’t seen in 11 years! (Also in Seoul!)
  • Visited my best friend in Seattle
  • Pitched my first campaign EVER
  • Said goodbye to my first “grown-up” job
  • Landed a job in social media & marketing

It doesn’t seem like I really did much this year, but I had little victories here and there. I’m most proud of finally deciding to focus on being a creative. It was a difficult choice and one that I’d been juggling for years, but this is what I want to do. I’m scared but excited and totally ready to keep making things in 2017.

  1. Simple but pretty much sums up everything! πŸ™‚ Congrats on your victories hehe more to come this year!
I’m glad that you’ve finally found what you want and you’re already achieving it. πŸ™‚

    • Haha πŸ™‚ I really think 2016 only needed like 2 more seconds of my time. I really didn’t want to write a huge recap on it!

Thanks, Mei! I hope these decisions work out and I don’t beat myself up over them any time soon. lol

  2. Happy New Year, Yen! Are you kidding me? I think you’ve had an amazing 2016! Just because you didn’t share much about your “dealings,” it doesn’t mean that yours was nothing short of eventful!

As always, I’m so happy with your achievements! I think you haven’t realized your strength enough, but you’re such a talented person. Never doubt yourself and what you’re capable of doing! Cheers to more amazing things in 2017!

    • Aww, Jae! You’ve seriously been my #1 supporter these past couple of years here on the blog. πŸ™‚ Thanks for your kind words.

P.S.: I think the post office finally sent your package today. I didn’t realize they were closed for so many days hahaha sorry again!

  3. Do what you want to do — that’s important! You know, aside from travelling plans, I don’t really make a lot of plans, either — just kind of go with the flow, you know? Sort of. I mean, I do have control of what I do, but somethings (like being selected for the new job) is not always a thing I can control either . . .

Either or, congrats on your new job! I’m glad we met up in 2016! It’s been a shite of a year in many ways, but meeting you is definitely one of the good things πŸ™‚ I hope we can meet up again in 2017 (when it’s not at the height of summer!)!

    • Thank you, Tara! I am actually terrified of change, but I am determined to make this all work out. I really want to go there in the spring or fall. It will all just depend on timing. πŸ™‚
