All Nighters

What is going on? It’s been a while! I know that my last post was a Life Lately bit, and I’m afraid this post is just about the same. I’ve actually been up to way more interesting things than usual, given that it has been a long time since I’ve updated this blog. If you’ve kept up and in touch with me through Twitter, you’ll know what’s been keeping me occupied. Or, maybe not? I don’t know. At any rate, here’s what’s been happening and why I haven’t been on here for quite some time.

I’ve been freelancing/remote working like there’s no tomorrow.

I secured a long-term contract with a really reputable and long-standing company in the US. I’m not entirely sure if I’m allowed to mention the company’s name, I should probably ask, but the work deals with biographical writing mostly for public figures. I’ve also been collaborating on blog management and article writing with a startup based in China. On the side, I’ve got a few gigs writing travel articles for companies based in the Netherlands, Austria, and the UK. It’s been a hectic and really exciting month!

I’ll be traveling again soon!

I won’t say where yet, but I’m pretty excited! I was initially traveling for volunteer work but had some miscommunication with the organization I was working with. Needless to say, it didn’t work out how I wanted. However, I do plan to volunteer again sometime in the future! Despite that though, I didn’t want to let my plane ticket go to waste so I’m still hopping on a plane in a little more than 6 weeks to one of my favorite places on Earth! Eek!!

I said no to China.

I received an admittance letter from the university I studied at last year in China. However, I decided not to go back. I felt so sad when I wrote to the head teacher that I decided not to attend, she wrote back saying she hopes to meet again which just broke my heart into a million little pieces! The teachers and students at the camp were all around the same age. So we all got so close. Sigh. Someday. I feel like the experience I had last year was one of a kind, and that the kind of people I met are impossible to replace! I do hope to go back to China again, but I want it to be another unique experience with its own memories.

I purchased 4 domains…

…and I started laying the foundation for my first business. My Tiger Mom rejoiced! Lol just kidding about that Tiger Mom bit. Anyway, I realized that there was this demographic that just wasn’t being talked about, reached out to, or even thought of in terms of studying/traveling/working abroad. I really hope to shed some light on them and hope that the world understands how valuable they are. Got any idea what this venture could be? You’ll just have to stick around…for the next few years. Heh.

How have you been?

  2. Yay for future travel plans and yes to your business venture! I hope everything turns out great! 🙂

  3. I have higher respect for people who go out of their comfort zones and travel not for fun but for school or volunteer work. I hope to do that someday too when I’m financially capable. Good luck on your future endeavours, Shayne!

As for me, well, I graduated and will look for a job sooner than soon. I’m excited and nervous at the same time! Hehe.

    • Excited for you, Jamie! You’re at a real exciting turning point in your life, and I wish you the best in your job hunting! I hope you find something that makes you truly happy! 🙂

  4. I am awfully curious on what your new endeavours will be 😀 I hope to find out soon! Whatever it is, I wish you luck with them!

And yay for travelling! I need to travel more, but time and money are what I lack X_X I should start saving for some awesome trip!

    • Thanks, Tara! Everything is still in their SUPER early stages!

My travel goal lately is to visit every place where I know a blogger! hahaha

  5. Of all your life lately updates, this has got to be my favorite! I’m so happy and excited for you, Yen! While China may not be in any of your future plans, things seem to be going very well with you in terms of work. Gotta love the job security this brings! 🙂

P.S. I may or may not have an idea on what you’re diving into! 😉

As for me, besides being busy at work, I’ve been trying to write follow-up blog entries re: our recent Spokane/Seattle trip, but reading Harry Potter books has completely impeded my progress! 😛

    • Aww, Jae! I can always count on you to be supportive! 🙂 I’m sure you’ve got a great idea as to what I’m up to — you’re smart like that! 😉 I’m waiting on your Seattle posts!! Come on, Jae! hahaha

      • Are you kidding me? You’re like the sister I never had. I’ve always felt that somewhat strange connection with you since that time I stumbled upon your blog post some three (or four) years ago! 😉

HAHAHA! Man, I’m working on it, alright? It’s coming together in God-knows-when. 😀

  6. Good for you! I wish I could delve into freelance work, but lord knows I’m not a talented writer like you. What are your new domains? Do you plan on launching it publicly?

Things have been interesting for me these past two weeks. I’ve started my 10 week internship and I got to observe an open heart surgery with aneurysm repair and bypass graft. It was so cool!

    • Whoa! Open heart surgery?!! That must have been quite the experience! I loved watching emergency operation TV documentaries growing up, but I always cringed as they were doing the actual operations. I mostly watched for the results! =D

I don’t wanna count my chickens before they hatch, so I’m keeping the domains a secret for now. =D I’m hoping to be ready by Winter 2017-2018. There’s so much work that goes into it. I’m just glad that my parents are both pretty entrepreneurial and have been helping out with a lot of the details I didn’t even think of!
